A decade or so ago my wife read a series of Utopian present day books. Some New England small town Episcopalian Priest? was the hero, although nothing heroic was really done. The plot lines were along the lines of the dog ran away, wait, here he is back again.
They sold pretty well, if I recall but probably not to any young readers.
One girl’s utopia is the stupid’s dystopia.
I think I’ve read a few along those lines. The only one with genetically engineered unicorns was pretty dark, though.
And vampires would glitter in the sunlight… opps wait. Wrong story.
Mary Death? More like Mary Sue.
Death by genetically engineered unicorn!
I would read a book where stupidity were punishable by death. But only if the measure of stupidity was judged by Mary – I trust her.

I’m all for a story about a Utopian future where unicorns roam free. Also, it must include fairies.
David Brin’s Culture novels are utopian future SF.
argh delete this, I meant Ian M. Banks
