Well if you think about it life hasn’t been able to “use” a pawn to get at Death before. This is the first time Death has bonded with a human and now Life has leverage. Life, for the first time since they started playing “the game”, has a pawn which he/she/it can use to get at Death. Mary is in a very dangerous position here I think, if Life really wants to mess with Death Life will use this to his advantage.

Death just collects people when they’ve reached the end of their lifespan… He isn’t responsible for them dying.
Also, he’s kind of adorable the way you draw him. Especially when cats are involved.
If I can stop time? It’d be use in many ways that gets me into and out of trouble.(assuming I also have the ability to get it back to go again.) Like free access to loads of forbidden places, toss all wanted people in a police department tied up, steal an SR-71 and get it up to speed than crash land it escaping right before it happens, set up video cameras in dictators’ offices, take the recordings, and get enough projectors to play all of those to the people at the same time, while notifying them the dictator is now tied up in his chair with all troops missing their weapons and wait for the pitch fork crowd gather downstairs and have the dictator vanish in front of them, just to teach the dictators a lesson.
If I can only stop time once? Probably I’ll never use the ability even facing death. If it comes too fast, I won’t have enough reflex to use it, if it comes slow, I’ll assume I have the ability to avoid it and save the chance for a later time.
