Ok. One gripe with this. Death does NOT “collect” souls to keep them himself. :/
He merely releases them from their mortal, physical form in order to enable them to go on to the next phase of their journey. He hands them off to the appropriate Angel, Valkyrie, Houri, whatever.
Oh, and he’s NOT afraid of cats either.
It still matters who does the escorting. I do abide by the idea that he helps souls travel to the next phase, but they are playing for that role more or less. Please keep in mind I do not follow typical lore associated with the personification of Death. This comic is mostly asking, if an artificial being achieves sentience, do they possess a soul. And, if so, who would be there at their end? Digital Death, or Death himself?

I’m a big fan of Terry Pratchett’s version, who is a cat lover. But it’s your comic, and I’m not about to stop reading it any time soon.
